2006–07 S.L. Benfica season

The 2006–07 season was Sport Lisboa e Benfica's 103rd season in existence and the club's 73rd consecutive season in the top flight of Portuguese football. It involved Benfica competing in the Primeira Liga, Taça de Portugal and the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League. Benfica qualified for the Champions League by coming third in the previous Primeira Liga.
Fernando Santos replaced Ronald Koeman who was sacked. In the Primeira Liga, now reduced to 16 clubs, Benfica ended in third, having a chance to pass to the lead when it drawed Porto in the 23rd matchday, then losing the second placed and finishing third, securing a spot in the third qualifying round of next year's Champions League.
The Taça de Portugal ended at the hands of Varzim in the sixth round.
In European competitions, Benfica beat Austria Wien in the third qualifying round reaching the group stage for second time in a row, ending third behind Manchester United and Celtic, beating Copenhagen for the UEFA Cup placed. In the UEFA Cup, Benfica reached the quarter-finals, losing 3–2 on aggregate to eventual runners-up Espanyol.
President Luís Filipe Vieira ran alone for a second term.
